Job Description

The Joint Maritime Security Centre (JMSC) is the UK government’s centre of excellence for maritime security. Its mission is to increase awareness and understanding of maritime security threats and enable cross-government coordination to deliver a whole-system response to mitigate them.

This is an opportunity to lead a step change in UK capability. We are looking for a Principal Engineer with strong systems engineering / systems integration background, to lead the upgrading of radar interfaces and data management systems.

This is a mixture of hands-on work, leading a technical team to the desired outcome, and solution development, working with the customer and other stakeholders to establish the approach for the future capability.  This involves stakeholder management, technical planning, design, installation, hardware decisions, supplier engagement, visiting sites across the UK and ensuring the solution meets the contractual and customer need.  This is the start of a long-term programme; you will be involved in road mapping and influencing direction, working closely with senior stakeholders across our client’s business and customer community.

Experience and Qualifications:

You will likely have a track record of working in radar systems integration, secure distributed data systems, or systems combining data feeds with security, scalability and service in mind.  You will have a keen interest in the system purpose and context, with an ability to influence future direction.

  • Strong technical leadership with demonstrable experience.
  • Hands on delivery of systems engineering artefacts, such as requirements, systems architecture / design, integration and test plans.
  • You should have knowledge of commercial maritime radars and basic detection principles.
  • Ability to gain UK security clearance.
