Job Description

Our client is a UK leader in Command Control Communications Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR), training and human sciences research & consultancy, bringing together diverse internal resource and external supplier teams to deliver innovation and value to our customers, specialising in efficient delivery of large framework contracts.

Key programme areas:

  • Command Control Communications Computers and Cyber Intelligence (C5I): The largest portfolio with MOD as its main customer, delivering under established framework contracts, covering Command and Control (C2) and a wide range of aspects of novel and deployed RF communications technologies, including resilience, deception, edge processing and cloud computing.
  • Exploration: A broad portfolio, focused on growth with customers across defence, with current work including Artificial Intelligence, Quantum, Human Performance, Operational Analysis, Technology Watch / Horizon Scanning, Experimentation, Land Intelligence, Surveillance, Target, Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) but also Multi-domain integration.
  • Future Sensing: Highly focused portfolio developing advanced sensing technologies primarily focused on radar and Electronic Warfare (EW), with a strong component of advanced signal processing, complemented by advice/consultancy and a range of trials work.  Includes large multi-year opportunities within advanced ISR, Hyperion (Hypersonics detect/defeat) and potential for capability exploitation.

Our client is a growing business, working into multiple customers, but primarily delivering research projects and programmes into MOD. They are offering opportunities to work alongside individuals and teams experienced in the above areas, to take on technical leadership roles of bids, projects and larger programmes.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Liaising with customers at a technical level to enhance the understanding of their requirements, and our clients’ offerings.
  • Producing Expression Of Interest (EOI) responses to customer requirements, which detail relevant capabilities and teams, coordinating and collating specialist input from a range of teams.
  • Producing costed proposals / bids for individual opportunities; developing the technical solution and proposal document, and working closely with the project / bid manager to support production of the commercial aspects, including price, dependencies and risks.
  • Technically leading contracted projects or programmes, providing specialism where this fits your experience, and coordinating a larger team.
  • Ensuring that the technical tasks are conducted according to the plan.
  • Ensuring the end deliverables meet customer specification and quality expectations.
  • Ensuring that the project and programme managers are fully informed of technical progress and issues.
  • Liaising with the customer technical lead to ensure that they are fully informed of progress and issues.

Essential skills, knowledge, capabilities

  • Leadership of technical delivery projects throughout the engineering lifecycle requiring delivery of complex solutions to a range of customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels across the department, business, and externally with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Able to ensure that customer needs and expectations are addressed and/or satisfied.

Desirable characteristics:

  • Understanding of Technical Assurance.
  • A solid understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle and its implementation.
  • Understands the operational environment and underlying domain specific issues.
  • Able to identify, conceive, review, and judge the suitability of systems solutions.
  • Experienced in the development and maturation of technology through the engineering lifecycle.
  • Able to manage multidisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists and a broad range of internal and external stakeholders whilst building and maintaining excellent relationships.
  • Proactively anticipates potential problems and deals with barriers.
  • An understanding of the application of systems engineering to different domains.
  • Technical background / experience that includes one or more specialisms relevant to C4ISR / C5I.

Due to the nature of this position, candidates are required to obtain a minimum of SC security clearance. To qualify, you should be a British Citizen and have resided in the UK for the last 5 years for SC and 10 years for DV.
